SUMMIT, NJ — Summit families can learn water safety skills, meet local first responders, and take part in the season's first float night when Pool Safety Day returns to the Summit Family Aquatic Center.
The city’s Department of Community Programs is hosting the event on Wednesday, June 24, from noon to 8 p.m. at the Summit Family Aquatic Center, located at 100 Ashwood Ave. The event is free for aquatic center members.
The day begins with a free swim lesson at noon for members and paid guests. Swimming instructors will teach children a variety of basic water safety and swimming skills, including safe water entry, breath control, floating techniques, and introductory swim strokes.
Following the lesson, a health and safety fair will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Attendees will have the opportunity to visit displays from the Summit Police Department, Summit Fire Department, the Westfield Regional Health Department, and other local health and safety organizations. The exhibits will focus on pool safety and other ways families can stay safe throughout the summer.
The event will wrap up with the first float night of the season from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the GRACE Youth Advisory Council, the evening will feature a float parade, splash contest, photo booth, games, and other family-friendly activities. Aquatic center members may bring guests free of charge for the float night portion of the event.
