According to a public notice issued by the city, the closed session will focus on attorney-client privileged affordable housing matters. Discussions involving legal strategy are permitted to take place in private under New Jersey's Open Public Meetings Act.

Affordable housing has become a significant issue for municipalities across New Jersey as communities work to meet state housing obligations and navigate legal requirements tied to future development.

The public comment portion of the meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber on the first floor of Summit City Hall, 512 Springfield Ave. Council members are expected to consider a resolution to enter closed session after hearing from residents.

The meeting notice also states the council may address other matters not currently known if they are later determined to require its attention.
