1. Masked Suspect Steals BMW From Summit Driveway (TAPinto.net) — A BMW was stolen from a Hillcrest Avenue driveway in Summit early Sunday after a masked suspect first entered the unlocked car, left in a white SUV, then returned to drive it away. Police released a detailed description of the suspect and SUV and are urging residents to lock vehicles, stay alert, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
2. Summit Commuters Face More Disruption: Midtown Direct Diverted for Five Weeks (TAPinto.net) — Weekday Midtown Direct trains serving Summit will be diverted to Hoboken from October 11 through November 14, forcing commuters to adjust routes into New York. Local officials say they're pressing NJ Transit for more reliable service and faster fleet upgrades, while cross-honoring on PATH, ferries, and buses will help riders cope during the Portal North Bridge cutover work.
3. Volleyball Preview: Hot Westfield Meets Cranford (maxpreps.com) — Summit's volleyball team just faced two of the area's hottest programs, falling 2–0 to both undefeated Westfield and a surging Cranford squad. As Westfield and Cranford now square off, the results highlight the level of competition Summit is seeing this season and what local fans can expect when these teams meet again.
4. Kearney signals support for Palmieri-Mouded Senate bid (newjerseyglobe.com) — State Assemblyman Vinnie Kearney is lining up behind Union County Commissioner Kimberly Palmieri-Mouded for a possible run against Sen. Jon Bramnick, in a race closely tied to Summit's legislative representation. Summit's current Assemblyman Andrew Macurdy and former Assemblywoman Nancy Muñoz are central figures as Democrats target the increasingly blue 21st District for a Senate pickup.
5. Obituary: George E. Sherman Jr., (weeklyexpressnews.com) — Longtime engineer and business owner George E. Sherman Jr. passed away on October 4 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit surrounded by family. Raised in Brooklyn and later a Westfield and Maplewood resident, he built a career in the plastics industry, cherished summers in Piseco, New York, and is remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
