Another New Jersey Student Suspended After Using Racial Slur
The Union County native and Georgia State women's soccer player was suspended after using a racial slur on social media.
ELIZABETH, NJ — A Union County native marks the second New Jersey student in eight days to be in hot water with their college after using a racial slur on social media.
Natalie Martinez, who was born in Elizabeth and was a freshman at Georgia State University, has withdrawn from the school after the university announced her suspension from the soccer's team after she posted a racial slur using the "N word" on her social media account, Finsta, a a private Instagram that only select people can follow or a "fake insta."
She had played as a defender for the women's soccer team. Her bio has since been removed from the university's soccer team page. She played a total of four games with the team and went to high school in Florida.

Many students are now calling for the university to expel Martinez over her comment. An online petition was created that has already gathered more than 700 signatures.

"As a progressive, diverse university, we GSU students feel like this sort of behavior should not be tolerated and that Natalia should be expelled from the university," the petition states.

"Georgia State's mission statement states that we 'provide an outstanding education and exceptional support for students from all backgrounds', and these Panther values are not concurrent with the very disturbing statements made publicly by the GSU freshman and soccer player. Please support our effort in keeping our university a positive, hate-free environment by signing this petition to have Natalia expelled from Georgia State University," the petition continued.
This story comes right after another New Jersey student, Harley Barber of Marlton, was expelled from the University of Alabama after she posted multiple racist rants on social media. (See Related: College Student From South Jersey Expelled After Racist Rant)
