Clean Cars, Baked Goods and Charity at Kent Place School

The sophomore class will host a charity car wash and bake sale on May 18.

The Kent Place Upper School’s sophomore class will host a car wash and bake sale on May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon to benefit a charity of their choice, which will soon be announced.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the purchase of a senior mascot. The girls will wash small to medium-sized cars for $10 and SUVs for $15. The car wash and bake sale will take place in the Kent Place Primary School driveway located off of Norwood Avenue.

Traditionally, each sophomore class organizes an annual car wash, which involves extensive student planning, preparation and collaboration. The sophomores wash and dry cars, as well as operate a bake sale, which will include a variety of sweet, student-baked, nut-free treats.

The Class of 2015 will soon finalize the charity to which the proceeds will go. Possible organizations include St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center, Susan G. Komen, and Doctors Without Borders. In April, the girls made personal suggestions to raise funds for specific organizations, based on personal passions for certain causes. The students will declare the official destination of the proceeds in the days to come.

In years past, the sophomore class has selected a mascot for their senior year to serve as a symbol of their class’s literary exploration. With money raised from their sophomore car wash, the seniors purchase a mascot, which they name after a character from the English literature novels they have read. Past senior mascots include Darcy the Dinosaur, Polly the Panda, and Chili the Cheetah. The senior mascot is an important way to commemorate the girls’ real and literary travels.
