Calling all local history buffs!

Patricia E. Meola, Summit’s official city historian will present a slide-illustrated lecture on Summit history.

Who was Jonathan Crane Bonnell, and why is he considered “The Father of Summit”? Why does the city feature a flame in its logo? When and why was Summit such a popular warm weather resort? Who was Augustus Dow, and why did he call himself “Joy”? And where and when did Summit’s medieval-style Vanderpoel Castle stand?

Hear about Summit’s founding families, see what the downtown area looked like 100 years ago and learn about the historical society’s latest initiative, a collaboration with the Summit Fire Department to restore and permanently house a 1927 fire engine.

The program is free and open to all. Seating is limited. First come, first seated.
