Girls and Boys Swimmers Kick Off Season with Impressive Wins
Battle of Summit Championship goes to the Hilltoppers.
The girls and boys swim teams made their first big splash of the season by beating their in-town rivals and in convincing fashion at the Summit YMCA pool on December 2.

The Summit girls swept Oak Knoll in the 200 medley relay, 200 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay events.

The 200 medley relay was won by the Summit team of Tasha Kewalramani, Emily Rowe, Jackie Joffe and Alex Riba. The 200 individual medley was won by Summit's Alex Riba, followed by Grace Newcomb in second and senior captain Caroline Delaney in third.
The 100 butterfly was won by freshman Alex Riba, who had a great meet, and was followed with strong efforts by second place finisher junior Kelly Delaney and senior Amanda Wilson in third.

The Summit girls dominated in the 100 backstroke which was won by Chase Olcott with Kelly Haberl finishing second, and Abby West taking third.
Summit 100 breaststroke record holder Tasha Kewalramani looked strong in her first place finish, followed by Emily Rowe and Jessica Martins.
In the 400 freestyle relay, the winning Summit team of Chase Olcott, Alex Riba, Jackie Joffe and Jayne Mandel beat out the second place Summit team of of Grace Newcomb, Keri Enriquez, Kristen Fedor and Kelly Delaney.
Summit took second and third in the 200 freestyle with strong showings by Kristen Fedor and Chase Olcott. In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Jackie Joffe swam an exciting 25 second race to tie her Oak Knoll rival Hartley, while teammate Tasha Kewalramani came in third. In the 100 freestyle, Oak Knoll's Hartley touched the wall just ahead Jackie Joffe and Emily Rowe who placed second and third.
In the 500 freestyle, Watt of Oak Knoll beat out Summit's Kristen Fedor and Kelly Haber who finished in second and third place respectively.
The only sweep for Oak Knoll was the 200 freestyle relay won by Demarco, West, Hartley and Watt.
"This was a great way to kick off the season and we had great swims by everyone, especially the underclassman who will only improve as the season progresses," said girls head coach John Ross.
Boys Results
The Summit boys also had an excellent meet by sweeping the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, and taking first in the two relay events.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Will Benn, Ryan Sebastian, Kyle Lyman, and senior captain Dan Byers powered the Hilltoppers to first place, followed by a strong second place finish by the team of Matthew Bauer, Robert Zhang, Tim Kostolansky, and Stuart Railey.
Summit started their string of sweeps by taking the 200 freestyle race on the strong strokes of Kevin Fries who took first, and Matthew Bauer and James Rath who placed second and third.
It was all Summit again in the 200 individual medley with Ryan Sebastian touching the wall first, followed strong performances by Kyle Fries, who was second, and James Rath who finished third.
In the fastest event of the meet, the 50 freestyle, the Hilltoppers sprinted to victory led by Will Beckett, Dan Byers and Tim Kostolansky, finishing first, second, and third, respectively.
The butterfly is generally considered the toughest stroke to master. In the 100 fly, Summit flew past their opponents to take first, second and third place. Cameron Simko hit the wall first, followed by Kyle Lyman and Kevin Fries.
The 100 freestyle, while not a clean sweep for the Hilltoppers, was won by Will Benn. Teammate Kyle Fries took second place.
In the grueling 500 freestyle race, one of two events the Hilltoppers did not win, Summit's Will Anderson managed to come in a respectable third place.
The 200 freestyle relay had two Summit teams taking first and third place. The winning team was led by
Kyle Lyman James Rath, Kyle Fries and Kevin Fries. The third place team comprised Jimmy Currie, Luca Guadagno, Will Beckett and Andrew Thieck.
Summit had two top finishers in the 100 backstroke with Alex Thomson taking second place, followed by Matt Celona in third. Robert Zhang and Luca Guadagno took first and second place for the Hilltoppers in the 100 breaststroke.
The exciting 400 freestyle relay capped a successful swim meet for the Hilltoppers, with the team of Dan Byers, Cameron Simko, Matthew Bauer and Robert Zhang taking first place. Summit's second team finished third and was comprised of Stuart Railey, Chris Chen, Jack Schaefer and Alex Thomson.
The girls take on Kent Place School at Farleigh Dickinson University Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
