Oak Knoll’s Field Hockey Team Helps Fight Breast Cancer
Oak Knoll's field hockey players worked together to raise $500 to benefit breast cancer research in Summit.

From Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child: Oak Knoll’s field hockey program rallied together to raise $500 to benefit breast cancer research.
Throughout the month of October, players wore pink laces to show their support and sold custom-designed field hockey baseball caps, with all proceeds benefitting the Breast Center at the St. Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center.
“Each October, it’s important for us as a team to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We have had families that have been effected by this horrible disease and we wanted to help make a personal difference in the effort to find a cure,” said Ali Good, field hockey coach.

Last month, in the midst of preparations for the NJSIAA Non-Public North semifinals, the team presented a check to Christine Blumber, a registered nurse, and Beth Rosenthal-Deutsch, director of major gifts for RWJ Barnabas Health.
“We’re so grateful for you,” Rosenthal-Deutsch told the Oak Knoll athletes. “It’s just amazing that here you are, a team that could be doing anything, and you’re giving back.”

One of the team’s three captains, Isabelle Clark ’17, of Chatham, said it was a cause they wanted to support.
“It’s really nice to bond over something that’s such a great cause and, as a team of girls, something that could affect our lives if we’re not safe about it,” Clark said.
In September, the Royals also participated the New York/New Jersey Field Hockey Challenge, a four-team scrimmage tournament benefitting the Suffern-based Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center’s breast cancer services.
