Summit Firefighters Go Pink For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit firefighters have joined fire departments across the country to wear pink polo shirts during the month of October to support and raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

“We have traded normal duty shirts for pink polos,” explains Summit Fire Chief Eric Evers. “Our department has been affected by various types of cancer and we wanted to join the fight to raise awareness about breast cancer detection and treatment this month.”

According to a study by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), firefighters, on average, have a higher risk of certain types of cancer compared to the general population.
