Summit High Schooler Unveils App For Students

Grace Nydam created the app for students at Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child

Summit high schooler Grace Nydam unveiled her new Oak Knoll School Of The Holy Child smart phone app during a schoolwide assembly yesterday.

“I found myself more often on my phone than my laptop checking school-related things, whether it was my schedule or the lunch menu,” senior Grace Nydam said in a statement. “I always thought it would be convenient to have everything related to Oak Knoll in one app on my phone.”

Nydam designed the app in collaboration with computer science teachers and staff over the summer. It features news, a map of the campus and inside of the Upper School buildings, and information like lunch menus and grades.

The app is updated daily, to reflect a student's current schedule.

Although beneficial to all Oak Knoll students, creating the app was personally beneficial for Nydam: “It has first and foremost helped me discover what I want to do in life:to help find ways to improve the lives of others through technology – even if for now it’s just something as basic as helping a student get to class on time,” she said. She plans on majoring in computer science in college.
