Summit To Host National Night Out Aug. 1

This year's National Night Out will feature the Dunk a Cop Tank, food trucks, bounce houses and other amusements.

SUMMIT, NJ — The Summit Police Department and Department of Community Programs will host the 2017 National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1 beginning at 6 p.m. on the Village Green, located at 356 Broad St.

Summit will join thousands of communities around the United States to celebrate National Night Out, a community-building event that takes place annually on the first Tuesday of August. Featuring a variety of state, federal and municipal level agencies, National Night Out provides a chance for community members to come together with law enforcement individuals.

Displays and demonstrations by the US Coast Guard, US National Guard, Union County SWAT, NJ State Police, the FBI and K-9 along with Summit Police, Fire, EMS and Public Works will take place on the Village Green.

This year’s National Night Out will once again feature the Dunk a Cop Tank, to benefit Madelyn Rose Smith, a 21-month old Boonton Township resident who was diagnosed with a rare mitochondrial disease before the age of 1.

Food trucks, bounce houses and other amusements will open at 6 p.m., followed by the Chris Clark Bicycle Stunt Show at 6:15 p.m. and the annual Blessing of the Badges at 6:45 p.m. The Kicks will perform on the main stage at 7 p.m. Free hot dogs will be provided at the Summit PAL food cart.
