Ceremony Honors Summit's Newly-Tenured Teachers

Prior to Thursday's Board of Education meeting, a ceremony was held to honor the district's newly-tenured teachers.

Board member David Dietze explainted that staffing decisions are among the most significant decisions made in the district.

"We are fortunate  - and have worked hard - to develop a thorough, thoughtful curriculum, enriching programs, and state-of-the-art facilities," he said. "But the success of our schools lies in the ability of our faculty to provide our students with an excellent education, year after year."

The status of tenure is not given casually, he noted, adding that only after a careful process of guidance, and evaluation by administrators, department supervisors, and principals is a staff member recommended for tenure.

"The people we are honoring tonight have successfully come through that process by demonstrating the skill, commitment, and professionalism that makes our staff second to none," he said.

The following teachers were honored:

Scott Bagish
Beth Boak
Thomas Bowers
Valerie Coronel
Kelly Coyle
Daniel Cummings
Erin Day
Lorena Dolan
Anthony Ferrante
Amanda Jacobs
Lori Kerzner
Alicia Luick
Abigail MacDonald
Erin Mitschke
Christy O'Connor
Scott Rebholz
Kevin Schauer
Jeremy Travis
Kate Warren

Five additional teachers, Christine Balak, Laura Brody, Elizabeth Buettner, Samantha Heimple, Nancy Priscu, received tenure but were unable to attend Thursday's ceremony.
