TEANECK, NJ — A man was pulled unconscious from the Teaneck pool on Saturday and taken to the hospital, police said.
Around 5:23 p.m., the Teaneck police responded to the Community Pool at 700 Pomander Walk after receiving a report of a 66-year-old man being pulled from the water, said Deputy Police Chief Seth Kriegel.
After a preliminary investigation, police determined that the man may have suffered a medical episode while in the pool. Lifeguards performed CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator, police said.
Police responded and helped with CPR until members of the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Advanced Life Support personnel arrived, Kriegel said.
The man was taken to Holy Name Medical Center, police said.
Hospital staff told police that the man had regained a pulse and remained in intensive care.
"The Teaneck Police Department commends the swift actions of the community pool lifeguards, responding officers, TVAC, and ALS personnel, whose coordinated efforts provided the victim with immediate lifesaving care," said a statement from police.
The incident is not believed to be suspicious, police said. No further information is available.
