Man Arrested In String Of Bergen County Car Burglaries

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — An Englewood man has been arrested in a series of car thefts and burglaries in Teaneck, police said Thursday.

Royer Moreno Cedeno, 22, has been charged with eight counts of credit card theft and other offenses.

Police said that starting in June, police got reports of break-ins to cars and fraudulent use of credit cards that were stolen from inside.

The suspect targeted unlocked cars in the early morning hours in Teaneck and nearby, stealing credit cards, cash, and other valuables, police said.

The thief used the cards to buy items at clothing stores in New York City, police said.

"Through an extensive investigation involving surveillance footage, investigative leads, and coordination with several law enforcement agencies, detectives identified Royer Moreno Cedeno as the individual responsible," police said.

Cedeno has been charged with seven counts of burglary, two counts of theft, eight counts of credit card theft, and one count of receiving a lost or stolen credit card.

Cedeno was arrested by the New York police in that city on July 16 and extradited to the Bergen County Corrections and Rehabilitation Center to await further court proceedings, police said.

Residents who believe their vehicle may have been unlawfully entered or tampered with, but who have not yet reported the incident, are encouraged to contact the Teaneck Police Department.

"Residents are urged to always lock their vehicles, remove valuables from plain view, and promptly report any suspicious individuals or vehicles in their neighborhoods," police said.
