There's no need to spend another summer weekend wondering what to do around Teaneck. The next few days bring a stadium-size concert, a movie under the stars, salsa dancing and two easygoing family outings close to home.
Bruno Mars starts the weekend with performances Friday and Saturday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Both shows begin at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The Romantic Tour is Mars' first full headlining tour in nearly a decade, making it the weekend's biggest splurge for pop fans.
For a free Friday night, spread out a blanket at Van Saun County Park in Paramus for "Zootopia 2." The Bergen County Movies & Music in the Park screening begins around sunset, approximately 8:30 p.m. County Executive James Tedesco called the series a chance to enjoy "a free, relaxing night out with your family and friends." Commissioner Steve Tanelli said it offers "something for everyone." Check for weather updates.
Saturday morning offers a gentler start at Teaneck Public Library. Its all-ages Family Storytime begins at 11 a.m. in the Parker Room, with stories, songs and no registration required.
Later, Banta Place becomes an outdoor dance floor. The free Hackensack Latin Social runs from 4 to 8 p.m., mixing salsa lessons, live performances, DJ Frank, local vendors and games. Even newcomers can join lessons from NJ Salsa and Afinké Dance Company before giving the steps a try.
Sunday's Summertime Social at Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge adds a little history to the weekend. From 1 to 4:30 p.m., families can decorate supplied kites, make herbal sachets, watch ice cream being made and tour historic sandstone buildings. A Benjamin Franklin portrayal begins at 2 p.m. Kite flying is weather permitting, and guests may bring folding chairs for the porch program.
