Opening Bell Nears For Teaneck’s New School Year

Teaneck classrooms will welcome students next Thursday after staff preparations and several family meet-and-greets.

TEANECK, NJ — Summer vacation is nearing its final chapter as Teaneck families prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year next Thursday.

Before the opening bell, Hawthorne Elementary School will welcome kindergarten and first-grade families next Wednesday for meet-and-greets and supply drop-offs. Bryant Elementary School has also scheduled a meet-and-greet next Wednesday.

Ten-month staff members return next Tuesday to prepare for students, according to the district calendar approved by the Board of Education on Aug. 19.

Thomas Jefferson Middle School Principal Nina Odatalla said the school is committed to providing students with a "safe, supportive and engaging environment" where they can grow and discover their strengths.

The first week will be brief because schools will close next Monday for Labor Day, and students and staff will have an early dismissal the following Friday for Rosh Hashanah.

Families can find school-supply lists, meal applications, calendars and opening information on the district's website before heading back to class. They may also want to double-check transportation arrangements and prepare for additional school traffic before students leave home.
