TEANECK, NJ — Looking for a way to enjoy the outdoors this weekend? Teaneck Creek Conservancy has three events planned, offering guided nature walks, birdwatching and a fall fundraiser.
The weekend begins Saturday, Oct. 24, with a free Nature and History Walk from 1 to 2 p.m. at 20 Puffin Way.
Teaneck Creek Conservancy land steward George Reskakis will guide participants along the trails, sharing the creek's history and highlighting local plants, wildlife and seasonal changes throughout the urban wetland.
Registration is recommended in advance.
The free program is open to all ages and will proceed in light rain or shine, with registered participants notified by email of any cancellations. Some trail sections may be difficult for strollers, and restrooms are unavailable.
On Sunday, Oct. 25, birdwatching takes center stage with a free Intergenerational Birdwalk from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Birding enthusiast Dena Ressler and her tween friends will introduce participants to birds that live at the creek and those passing through.
The hands-on experience will teach visitors how to locate birds among the trees and recognize different species by their songs.
Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars, although a limited number will be available to borrow.
Both walks welcome all ages, with registration recommended. Programs proceed in light rain, and registered participants will receive email notifications if an event is canceled.
Visitors should also know that some trails may be challenging for strollers, and restrooms are unavailable.
Later Sunday, the conservancy is scheduled to host A Flight & A Bite & A Fall Auction from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at Hackensack Brewing Co., 78 Johnson Avenue in Hackensack.
The family-friendly fundraiser features burgers, board games and beer, with dogs also welcome.
Dog treats and water bowls will also be available for guests bringing their four-legged companions.
Attendees can meet fellow nature enthusiasts, learn about local conservation efforts and bid on items during a silent auction. Food from Holy Grail will also be available for guests to enjoy.
Tickets are available in three categories: Warbler, Sandpiper and Merlin, offering different food and drink options. Additional food and drink tickets will be sold on-site.
Tickets are on sale now.
