BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A motorcyclist died in a crash on the George Washington Bridge on Thursday morning, officials said.
Drivers were urged to avoid the bridge until early afternoon as police investigate.
A motorcyclist collided with a tractor-trailer on the bridge around 5:19 a.m., said a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The crash occurred on the upper level eastbound toward Manhattan, the spokesperson said.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and the tractor-trailer driver was not injured.
The Teaneck police sent a message Thursday advising drivers to plan alternate routes until at least early afternoon, and to expect delays on routes 4, 80, and 95.
511NJ.com, the state's traffic website, reported that the center lane of the bridge, on the Fort Lee side, was still closed after 10 a.m.
