A member of Wu-Tang Clan, a popular New York hip-hop group, has endorsed a Hackensack Democrat vying for the 5th Congressional District.
Critically acclaimed Ghostface Killah, lesser known as Dennis Coles, tweeted support for Roy Cho, an attorney looking to challenge Republican Rep. Scott Garrett for the district's congressional seat.
“I need yall to check my man @roycho5 website http://www.roycho.com & help get him that CONGRESS SEAT,” tweeted the hip-hop star, noting Cho’s Twitter account.
The endorsement stemmed from Cho’s sister, Jennifer, who has worked in the music industry and talked up her brother’s congressional hopes with industry contacts, according to the New Jersey Herald.
Cho, 32, is eyeing his first run for public office and was set to hold a fundraiser in New York City, the report said.
Garrett, a conservative Republican, won his sixth term in November in a contest against Teaneck Deputy Mayor Adam Gussen. The 5th District was redrawn to move Democratic strongholds, including Hackensack and most of Teaneck, in with Republican-leaning rural areas in Sussex County. Still, at least 70 percent of registered voters are in Bergen County, the report noted.
