11-Mile Backup On Parkway Following Toms River Crash

An afternoon crash on the Garden State Parkway is tying up traffic on multiple side roads, the state Department of Transportation says.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A crash Friday afternoon on the Garden State Parkway southbound in Toms River has resulted in an 11-mile backup in the southbound lanes, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The parkway jam is causing traffic jams on side roads from Brick Township south to Toms River as drivers try to avoid the parkway jam.

According to 511nj.org, the state DOT website, there are backups on the following roads:

  • Route 35 in Wall southbound to Point Pleasant Beach
  • Route 33 east in Howell from Route 34 to Asbury Road in Wall
  • Route 9 south from Lakewood to Toms River
  • Route 166 from the parkway to Route 37
  • Route 70 west from Brick to Ridgeway Road in Manchester.

Details on the crash, which happened about 1:20 p.m. north of Exit 82A, were not immediately available. The NJDOT information said all lanes were open but police and other vehicles were seen off on the shoulder as of 4:30 p.m.
