NEW JERSEY — Summer is just around the corner, and for many that means days spent lounging on the beach at the Jersey Shore.

How much will it cost to get your beach badges this year? Here is Patch's annual guide to beach fees and parking access.

Most towns are scheduled to open their beaches Memorial Day weekend and operate weekends only until mid-June. Many towns are still hiring staff for the summer season, including lifeguards. Filling openings has been difficult in the last few summers, so it's always wise to double-check with the town where you're headed to make sure there are no issues on a particular day.

Just a reminder that most towns and beaches have rules about coolers, playing ball, music, tents and other items for your beach spread.

A reminder, too, that while recreational marijuana is legal for adult consumption, it is not legal to smoke it on the beaches in New Jersey. Smoking of any kind was banned on the beaches
