3 People Shot In South Toms River Incident: Prosecutor

One person was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment; two others arrived by car at Community Medical Center, authorities said.

SOUTH TOMS RIVER, NJ — Three people were shot Sunday morning in an incident in South Toms River, and the circumstances remain under investigation, authorities said.

South Toms River police were called to a home in the borough at 1:16 a.m. for a report of a gunshot victim, and learned the person had run to the home for help after being shot, according to a joint news release from Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and South Toms River Police Chief William Kosh.

That person was treated at the scene and taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune for additional treatment, the prosecutor's office said.

As authorities investigated, two more people arrived at Community Medical Center in Toms River with gunshot wounds from the same incident. They arrived in personal vehicles, the prosecutor's office said.

No additional details were released about the incident.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit, Beachwood Police Department, and Pine Beach Police Department all assisted the investigation at the scene.
