9/11 Remembrance Ceremony For Ocean County Victims Set
The Ocean County Board of Commissioners and other county officials will honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Ocean County officials will hold a remembrance ceremony on Monday to honor the memories of those killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on Monday outside the county's offices.
The 9/11 ceremony will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Sept. 11 Memorial in the courtyard by 119 Hooper Ave., between the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Ocean County parking garage and offices.
The Ocean County Board of Commissioners and other county officials and staff will gather to honor the nearly 3,000 people killed, which included 20 Ocean County residents. Countless others have died as a result of Sept. 11 illnesses.
"We also remember the men and women of the military that were lost during the War on Terror and continue to fight to keep us safe," the county announcement said.
At the World Trade Center, 2,763 died, including 343 firefighters and paramedics, 23 New York City police officers and 37 Port Authority police officers, according to History.com. At the Pentagon, 189 people were killed, including 64 on American Airlines Flight 77, the airliner that struck the building. On United Flight 93, 44 people died when the passengers who realized the plane had been hijacked plane caused the plane to crash in Pennsylvania before it could reach its intended target.

There will be a wreath-laying at the county's 9/11 memorial and a moment of silence, along with speeches.
