$9.2M Route 37 Paving Project Brings Shoulder Closures

Work on a 4-mile stretch of Route 37 in Toms River includes traffic signal improvements and ADA sidewalk access.

TOMS RIVER, NJ – The shoulder on Route 37 will be closed between Thomas Street and Fischer Boulevard Wednesday and Thursday as a $9.2 million pavement rehabilitation project begins, the New Jersey Department of Transportation said.

The shoulders on both the eastbound and westbound sides of the road are set to be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days as the contractor, Earle Asphalt Company, is scheduled to do survey work.

All three travel lanes will remain open in both directions.

The project is set to include pavement repairs and improvements to the following intersections:

  • Coolidge Avenue
  • Washington Street
  • Clifton Avenue
  • Peter Avenue/Batchelor Avenue
  • Vaughn Avenue/Westend Avenue
  • Garfield Avenue
  • Fischer Boulevard

The work includes traffic signal upgrades and ADA-compliant ramps. Electrical work is scheduled begin in the next few weeks. Milling and paving is expected to begin in the summer, and the project is anticipated to be completed in the fall.

"The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors," the NJDOT said.
