9 Year-Old Girl Dies After Pool Incident

Services scheduled for Saint Justin's Church

A 9 year-old girl found unresponsive last week in a backyard swimming pool has died, police confirmed.

Kaitlyn L. Duckworth died Friday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after being listed in critical condition following the afternoon July 14 incident on Larch Drive in Toms River.

said previously that officers, EMS and the Silverton Fire Company responded to a 911 call that afternoon that reported the girl being unresponsive after being pulled from the pool.

Henry said emergency responders immediately began performing CPR, and the girl was transported to Community Medical Center, where her pulse was restored. She was then airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.

Kaitlyn was a parishioner and CCD student of Saint Justin Roman Catholic Church on Fischer Boulevard and attended Silver Bay Elementary School. Kaitlyn was also a member of the Girl Scouts and was currently training in karate, according to her obituary from Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals.

Surviving are her parents, Arthur Jr. and Michele Duckworth; her maternal grandparents, Joan & Herb Mott of Toms River and her paternal grandparents, Arthur Duckworth Sr. of Howell, and Ruth Duckworth of Manchester. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 Central Ave., Seaside Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. at St. Justin RC Church, Toms River. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com.
