Adding Another Day of Flea Market

Route 70 Flea Market adds Wednesdays, starting today

For $5, you can now rent a table at the Route 70 flea market on Wednesdays. Or, if you are shopping, you might come home with a car full of merchandise for $5.

The Route 70 flea market in Lakewood has added Wednesdays in summer to the list of days vendors can sell and shoppers can buy at the market. Previously, it was Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The idea is to expand the opportunity for discounts, and also to help locals make a buck selling at a discount.

"With gas prices on the rise and families having to tighten their budgets more and more each week, the need to buy food, clothing, and other essentials at reduced prices is needed now more than ever," said Adam Reynolds in a press release announcing the Wednesday addition.

Admission for shoppers is always free.
Vendors looking to rent tables arrive at the market starting at 6:30 a.m. Vendors can rent tables on Wednesdays and Fridays for $5 each. A table on a Saturday and Sunday can be rented for $12 each and no reservations are needed.

Reynolds described the flea market, which is now in its second generation of family ownership, is more than 30 years old. Throughout it all, the Reynolds family wanted to provide an open market for buying and selling.

"Over 30 years ago, Ray Reynolds saw this need and opened up the Route 70 Auction and Flea Market. Ray’s plan was to have a local place where the citizens of Ocean County could spend a beautiful New Jersey day walking the acres of tables surrounded by the wooded lots of Lakewood. A place where you could bring all of the things you no longer need from your home and sell them for cash, while spending the day with your family," Reynolds wrote.

Today is the first day for Wednesdays at Route 70. The plan is to be open Wednesdays for the remainder of the spring and summer months. In addition to the outdoor tables, Route 70 has indoor vendors. The flea market is near the intersection with Vermont Avenue.
