TOMS RIVER, NJ — Residents on the north side of Toms River have a new grocery store opening Thursday.

The new Aldi at 86 Route 70 in Toms River, just west of Route 9, opens at 9 a.m. Thursday.

It's the second store in Toms River — the first is on Route 37 west — and part of what company officials said is part of its aggressive national expansion as it aims to become the third-largest grocery chain by store count by the end of 2022.

The new Toms River store will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, with the first hour of business on Tuesdays and Thursdays reserved for vulnerable shoppers. It offers delivery through Instacart. The company is expanding its curbside grocery pickup, but that service is not yet available at the new store.

"We have served this community for more than 19 years and look forward to continuing to offer Toms River residents high-quality, fresh foods and low prices in every Aldi aisle, every day," said Bob Grammer, Aldi's Center Valley regional vice president.

The typical Aldi is about 12,000 square feet, with open ceilings and natural lighting, the company said.

"In addition, the retailer remains focused on ensuring stores are stocked with food and household essentials customers need, including healthy, convenient options and a robust selection of produce delivered fresh to stores daily," the company said.
