SEASIDE PARK, NJ — A 23-year-old Palmyra man has drowned in the ocean off Seaside Park, police said Friday night.
The man's identity was not released, but Sgt. Andrew Casole of the Seaside Park Police said his family had been notified.
His body had not been recovered as of 9:30 p.m. and the search had been suspended due to darkness, Casole said.
A swimmer in distress was reported about 5:30 p.m. in the area of Decatur Avenue.
Casole said reports of a second missing swimmer were not true, and said they may have been the result of other people trying to rescue the man.
Seaside Park and Seaside Heights Water Rescue teams responded, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, Casole said.
