Dog Injured In Toms River House Fire

The fire left the home uninhabitable, fire officials said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A dog was rescued from a Toms River home by firefighters on Wednesday, fire officials said.

The house fire on George Road was reported just before 9 p.m., said Matthew Janora, chief inspector and fire official with the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention.

The residents were not home at the time, and there were no injuries to civilians or first responders, Janora said.

The East Dover Fire Company responded and confirmed the fire, and crews immediately initiated suppression operations, he said. Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

Firefighters rescued the dog and it was taken to a local veterinary hospital, he said. The dog's condition was unknown.

The Toms River Building Department deemed the structure unsafe for occupancy, Janora said.

The fire is under investigation by Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention Inspector Benjamin Carlin. Janora said the initial findings suggest the fire was accidental.

In addition to East Dover Fire Company, the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Company 1, Toms River Fire Dept., Company 1, Toms River Fire Company No. 2, Toms River Police Department and Toms River Police EMS responded.

"We thank all fire companies involved and thank our mutual aid, police, and EMS partners for their continued support and assistance," he said.
