WALL, NJ — A pair of Ocean County men are facing weapons charges after authorities seized a loaded AR-15-style "ghost gun" during a traffic stop on Interstate 195, Wall police said.
Christopher Ojeda Jr., 18, of Toms River, and Jarrone Perry, 47, of Jackson, were arrested Aug. 3 following the stop that happened shortly after 11 p.m., police said.
Police pulled the vehicle over for a traffic violation, and during the investigation learned Perry had a warrant from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office for failure to register as a sex offender, police said.
Brick Township Police K-9 Officer Ray Lapoint and K-9 Rebel assisted, with K-9 Rebel performing a free-air sniff of the vehicle and giving a positive indication for the presence of narcotics or other contraband, police said.
A search turned up a loaded, AR-15-style privately manufactured firearm, also known as a "ghost gun", police said.
Ojeda and Perry were charged with possession of an unserialized firearm, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of an assault firearm, unlawful possession of a rifle, and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, police said.
Perry additionally was charged with certain persons not to possess firearms, police said.
Both men were taken to the Monmouth County jail, but it could not be immediately determined whether they remained there on Monday.
