📰 News we're reading

1. DOT's Route 35 Idea Is DOA (jerseyshoreonline.com) — Drivers in Ortley Beach and Lavallette can relax knowing NJDOT has dropped its idea to convert Route 35's one-way pair into two-way traffic and add back-in parking. After packed summer hearings and strong local opposition, officials say only other safety tweaks like better bike-lane markings and signage remain under consideration through a long-term corridor plan.

2. Toms River Police Officer Saves Man in Cardiac Arrest With CPR, AED Shock (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A Toms River police officer is being praised after he single-handedly revived a man who went into cardiac arrest during an Aug. 6 medical call in town. Patrolman Thomas Elwood used CPR and a single AED shock until the man regained consciousness and began breathing on his own, then stayed with him until EMS transported him to the hospital.

3. Judge Denies Seaside Park Bid to Immediately Recover South Seaside Park Tax Revenue (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A judge in Toms River has denied Seaside Park's emergency bid to immediately reclaim South Seaside Park tax revenue from Berkeley Township, meaning the high-stakes dispute will move forward as standard litigation. For local residents, the ruling delays any quick resolution over which town ultimately controls millions in property taxes tied to the annexed neighborhood.

4. Students Compete In International Space Design Finals (jerseyshoreonline.com) — Toms River Regional high school students recently represented the district at the International Space Settlement Design Competition finals at Disney World after qualifying at High School East. Working on simulated aerospace companies, they helped craft detailed space-settlement proposals, and two Toms River STEAM Academy seniors were on the winning Rockdonnell team.
