• Cell Phone Ban In Toms River Schools: See The Rules And Penalties (patch.com) — Families in Toms River should prepare for a strict new cell phone and smart device ban across all grades in the regional school district for 2026-27, with escalating penalties up to multi-day suspensions. The policy, adopted under a statewide mandate, lays out different rules for elementary, middle, and high school students, while allowing limited exceptions for health, learning plans, translation, and family-care responsibilities.

• Jersey Shore Hospital, Health Facilities Sued After Elderly Woman Died of Sepsis (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A wrongful death lawsuit filed in Ocean County Superior Court, originating from Toms River, accuses several Jersey Shore-area care facilities and a hospital of negligent treatment leading to an elderly woman's death in 2024. The suit alleges understaffing, poor monitoring, and inadequate care at multiple locations, and seeks compensatory and punitive damages, though none of the claims have yet been proven in court.

• Ocean County Launches Addiction Awareness Campaign (jerseyshoreonline.com) — Ocean County is kicking off its new "Ocean Goes Purple" addiction-awareness campaign in downtown Toms River on Aug. 31, with county buildings along Hooper Avenue lit purple and resources available outside the Prosecutor's Office. Throughout September, residents, schools, and businesses are encouraged to wear purple, host educational events, and learn about local treatment and recovery options funded through a state grant, not local taxes.
