TOMS RIVER – Join us for the Ocean County Library's 3rd annual LGBTQIA+ Resource Fair at the Toms River Branch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, November 7. The purpose of the Fair is to connect members of the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies with agencies that are available to assist them.
Representatives from LGBTQIA+ support organizations will be available to describe their services and answer your questions. Organizations confirmed to attend include Barnegat Pride, Free Mom Hugs, Garden State Equality, NJ Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development, NJ Division on Civil Rights, Ocean Pride of Ocean County College, Queer + Trans Art Club, Toms River Pride, and more.
Workshops will run throughout the day and will include:
·"Support Your LGBTQ+ Child Across the Lifespan: A Clinical Social Work Perspective for Parents and Caregivers" presented by Virtual Queer Library – 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Green Room. This workshop will also be hosted in Spanish at 1 p.m.
·"A History of LGBTQ+ Medicine: We Have Always Been Here" presented by Juan Carlos Barrera, LCSQ, RYT – 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. – Hometown Dairy Room
For younger attendees, there will be button making in the second floor's Maker Space from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The branch's atrium will feature a 12' x 12' panel of the AIDS Memorial Quilt alongside information about the history of the AIDS epidemic and its effect on the LGBTQIA+ community.
This year's keynote speech will feature comedian Julia Scotti in the Green Room from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. As a nationally headlining comedian, former teacher, and transgender woman, Julia strikes the perfect balance of heartfelt honesty, emotional understanding and hilarious observations. Join us as she shares her journey in returning to comedy after transitioning.
