TOMS RIVER, NJ — Multiple traffic signals were out and more than 4,100 homes were without electricity on Tuesday afternoon, prompting authorities to urge drivers to use caution in Toms River, authorities said.
The cause of the outage was still being determined, said Chris Hoenig, a spokesman for Jersey Central Power & Light. He said the company had crews working to switch the affected area to other circuits to get power restored.
Traffic signals along Hooper Avenue and Route 37, including at Hospital Drive, were out as a result of the power failure, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office said.
"USE CAUTION. Expect delays," the sheriff's office said in an alert.
The First Energy outages website was estimating power would be restored by 5 p.m.
