Black Bear On The Move In Ocean County: Authorities

The bear seen Friday morning in Lakewood turned up in the evening in Toms River, and police said it appeared to be headed west out of town.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A black bear has been seen in Toms River, apparently the same bear that was seen in Lakewood near Georgian Court College on Friday morning, authorities said Satruday.

The Toms River Police Department said in a Facebook post that there were bear sightings in the Oak Ridge section of town on Friday night.

"We have been in contact with the Department of Environmental Protection and they advised us they’ve been tracking the bear through multiple towns. He has not been aggressive and they believe he will continue to move west and out of town by the day's end," Tojms River police said.

"If you see him, stay away and do not feed," the post said.

Lakewood police on Friday morning said the bear had been seen at Georgian Court University, near the guardhouse at the front entrance of campus and walking along the fence line at Ninth Street. It was later seen again in the area of Healthcare Way between New Hampshire and Towbin avenues.
