Washington Township defense doesn't allow Mariners to get a single shot

Through the first three rounds of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV tournament, the Toms River North boys soccer team had eight goals and more than a dozen shots on goal.
On Thursday, the fifth-seeded Mariners were unable to manage even one, as second-seeded Washington Township edged Toms River North 1-0 in the South Jersey Group IV sectional championship game in Washington on Thursday, according to NJ.com.
Toms River North (14-6-2) was coming off a 3-2 upset of top-seeded Rancocas Valley in the sectional semifinals where the Mariners got nine shots on goal. But on Thursday, Washington Township kept them at bay, not allowing a single shot on goal in 80 minutes.

At the same time, Washington Township (24-1) was testing Toms River North goalkeeper Tommy Lynch steadily, according to the NJ.com report, which said Lynch made several spectacular saves that kept North in the game.
Washington Township finally scored 60 minutes into the game off a corner kick.

Toms River North won its only overall Group IV title in 1983.
