Indians fall in South Jersey Group III final

Toms River South’s run through the state playoffs has come to an end.
The second-seeded Indians, who were aiming for their first overall state title since 2009, kept Ocean City scoreless for 50 minutes but fell to the top-seeded Red Raiders 2-0 in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group III championship game in Ocean City on Thursday, according to the Shore News Today website.
Toms River South (15-4-2) had managed 10 shots on goal in a game where offensive chances were at a premium for both teams, according to NJ.com. Ocean City, the defending South Jersey Group III champion, got just six shots on goal, but twice found the back of the net.

Donnie Van Meter, the Red Raiders’ leading scorer, put one home 10 minutes into the second half, according to Shore News Today, and Aaron King sealed the Indians’ fate with a tally with eight minutes left.
The Shore News Today report said Toms River South played strong defense, shutting down three solid Ocean City chances in the first half of what the report said was a physical game.
