Bus Drivers Sought For Toms River Schools

The Toms River Regional School District is seeking bus drivers. Find out how to apply.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Regional Schools are seeking part-time and full-time drivers for the district's school buses.

Drivers who have Class A or B commercial driver's licenses with with airbrake, school bus, passenger endorsements are preferred, but those who have a Class C commercial license with school bus and passenger endorsements are welcome to apply if they are willing to get Class B and Air Brake endorsements, said Laurel Venberg, the district's transportation director.

Starting pay is $27 per hour, and there are driver contracts available with benefits with hourly pay of $30.63 and 6.5 hours a day, with a possibility to pick up extra hours with other work, she said.

The district is willing to train anyone who is over 21 and has been driving for 3 years.

Candidates must be able to pass a background check and pass a written test required by the state Motor Vehicles Division; the district provides training for the written test, Venberg said.

Candidates pay for fingerprinting for the background check, a tuberculosis test and permit fees, totaling about $250, she said.
