Cell Phone Violation Stop Leads To Heroin Discovery In Toms River Man's Car, Police Say

The driver, a man from Toms River, was pulled over on a charge of talking on the phone while he was driving, police said.

A Toms River man has been charged with drug possession and motor vehicle offenses after police found heroin and steroids in his car, Lakehurst police said.

Chief Eric Higgins said Lakehurst Officer Jason Guide stopped a 2012 Honda Civic operated by Justin Eremita on Oct. 12 shortly before 1 a.m. after seeing Eremita talking on his cell phone and failing to maintain his lane.

As Guide was speaking with Emerita, 22, of Toms River, he observed heroin in plain view on the back floor of the car, Higgins said. A further investigation and search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 43 decks of heroin, a hypodermic needle, and two vials of anabolic steroids, Higgins said.
