Cops: Toms River Man Tries To Flee Across Parkway After Grabbing $2,000 In Kmart Merchandise

Two from Toms River were charged with conspiracy and shoplifting - one of whom was also charged with possession of heroin.

A 20-year-old Toms River man was arrested Thursday after stealing $2,000 worth of merchandise from Kmart in Manahawkin, and then trying to flee across the Garden State Parkway, police said.

Christopher S. Carsillo and Angeline C. Hatch, 31, of Toms River were charged with conspiracy and shoplifting, police said. Hatch was also charged with possession of heroin, police said.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., police received a call from Kmart employees reporting that they had witnessed two people shoplifting over $2,000 of merchandise from the store.

When police arrived, Hatch remained at the scene while the male suspect fled the store and ran into the wooded area behind Kmart, police said.

Police responded to the scene and set up a perimeter. Shortly thereafter, an officer located and apprehended the Carsillo attempting to cross over the Garden State Parkway southbound lanes, police said.

The two suspects were placed under arrest and further investigation revealed that Hatch was in possession of heroin. They were transported to police headquarters, police said.

A court appearance has been scheduled for December 5 at 1 p.m.
