1 Dead In Parkway Crash In Toms River

The crash investigation tied up traffic in both directions for more than two hours.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — One person has died in a crash on the Garden State Parkway on Thursday morning, New Jersey State Police confirmed.

No details were available on the driver as of 3 p.m., a person in the state police public affairs office said.

The crash happened in the southbound lanes near Exit 81 in Toms River sometime before 8:15 a.m., which was the time of a Nixle alert from the Ocean County Sheriff's Office alerting motorists to the crash.

Traffic was backed up the southbound lanes as motorists squeezed by on the shoulder while all three travel lanes were closed for the accident investigation. Northbound traffic in the area was backed up as well, according to the DOT website 511nj.org, due to rubbernecking.

State police told NJ.com that the collision was between a small car and a truck.
