Crashes, Fires, Flooded Vehicles: Toms River Police Answered 294 Calls During Storm
The 25 hours from the start of Tuesday's storm to early afternoon Wednesday kept first responders very busy in Toms River, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — While most Toms River residents did not experience extensive power outages or significant flooding damage during the storm Tuesday into Wednesday, the storm did keep first responders busy.
The Toms River Police Department had 294 calls for service from noon on Tuesday through 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Lt. Gene Bachonski said. In addition, the township's fire companies received 34 calls for assistance, he said.
Those calls during that 25-hour period included 17 crashes, and separately, 20 disabled vehicles, most of which were due to flooding, Bachonski said.

There were 13 calls about flooding, from all over the township, 10 calls about trees down and 9 calls about wires down that the police department answered.
Police answered seven calls about traffic and road hazards, three calls about transformer explosions, three calls about wires or poles on fire, and one about a vehicle fire, he said.

The fire companies answered 12 fire alarms, assisted at 7 fires, responded to three reports of hazardous conditions, three fire complaints, two structure investigations, two wires down, two traffic crashes, one transformer issue, and responded to the vehicle fire, Bachonski said.
There was one incident involving carbon monoxide, he said.
