Drunk and impaired driving will be targeted this weekend, but many departments did not list any specific DWI checkpoint locations.
"We will have additional patrols on our highways during peak hours that have shown in the past to require special attention on holidays," said Ralph Stocco, spokesman for the Toms River Police Department. "Supplemental patrols are being added to the barrier island, including Ortley Beach and the town areas north of Lavallette, to assist with the influx of people visiting our town."

In addition to targeting drunk drivers, checkpoints could include two drug recognition experts to detect those under the influence of narcotics.
Each year impaired drivers are responsible for about a third of the deaths occurring on Ocean County roadways, said Al Della Fave, spokesman for the prosecutor's office. Last year Ocean County had 38 DWI fatalities, moving from second highest among the state's 21 counties to fifth highest.
