Edgar Topples No. 2 Featherweight, Seeks Another Chance At UFC Title

The Toms RIver native is hoping for a rematch after a close loss to Jose Aldo in July

It took a little bit more work, but Toms River native Frankie “The Answer” Edgar knocked off the the No. 2 featherweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship circles on Saturday night.

According to the Asbury Park Press, Edgar (17-4-1), the No. 3 featherweight, submitted Cub Swanson (21-6) at 4:56 of the fifth round of the UFC Fight Night main event Saturday in Austin, Texas. It was the latest submission in UFC history.

Edgar is seeking another rematch with featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who edged Edgar in a close decision in their first meeting.

After a close first round, Edgar controlled the match, beating Swanson for much of the ensuing four rounds, dragging Swanson to the mat early in each round before delivering devastating elbows and other ground-and-pound techniques, according to the Asbury Park Press.

In the fifth round he caught Swanson in a rear naked choke shortly before the horn and Swanson tapped nearly instantly.
