The Ocean County College Theatre Company will perform The Dream of the Burning Boy, by David West Read, at the Arts & Community Center Black Box Theatre, OCC Main Campus, Toms River, NJ. Tickets are on sale now. Note: Limited seating is available in the Black Box Theatre.
Ever since the sudden death of Dane, the high school “golden boy,” everyone who knew him is dealing with his passing in unusual ways. High school teacher Larry Morrow has been falling asleep at his desk. Steve, the school’s guidance counselor is handing out inspirational posters designed to help everyone “process their emotions.” Girlfriend Chelsea has embraced her role as the “grieving widow” and is enjoying the attention. His sister, Rachel, hides behind a tough exterior of sarcasm and cruelty. Kyle is unprepared to deal with the weight and complexity of his friend's death. Dane's mother, Andrea, is struck with grief, regret, mistakes, secrets, and lies. And then halfway through the play, an unexpected bombshell drops! Searing, yet funny, The Dream of the Burning Boy is about finding the strength to move on and the courage to live without regret.
