The man is accused of spending the money on personal items.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The former treasurer of a Toms River Cub Scout pack has been charged with theft, accused of stealing more than $4,000 from the organization whose funds were entrusted to his care, the Ocean County prosecutor's office announced Friday.

Louis Freund of Toms River is accused of taking $4,275 from Toms River Cub Scout Pack 57, where he had been serving as treasurer, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Detective Denis Mitchell of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crimes Unit investigated and found Freund used the money from the Cub Scouts' account for personal items, outside the parameters authorized by Cub Scouts, Billhimer said.
