Excavator Falls On Car In Toms River, No One Hurt: Police

An excavator attached to a dump truck wreaked havoc in Toms River and Brick Wednesday night by downing wires and landing on a car.

TOMS RIVER, NJ – A trailer containing an excavator attached to a dump truck flipped over and landed on a vehicle waiting at a red light, Toms River police said.

At about 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, the truck made a right turn onto Whitesville Road from Rte. 70. During the turn, the attached trailer flipped over, and the excavator landed on top of a car stopped at a red light. Neither the truck driver nor the driver of the stopped vehicle were hurt, police said.

The truck had caused damage in Brick just before the Toms River incident. At about 5:08 p.m., the upright excavator took down several wires along Rte. 70 in Brick, according to Brick Township police. One of the wires fell on top of a car, though police say the driver is not hurt. The downed wires also resulted in substantial power outages, and road closures as multiple crews tried to repair them.
