FOOTBALL: Toms River North Wins South Jersey Group V Title

The Mariners captured their sixth sectional championship with the victory over Williamstown.

Mission accomplished.

Toms River North’s Asante Moorer scored a touchdown from a yard out early in the fourth quarter to give the Mariners the lead, and the defense stopped Williamstown deep in North territory with less than a minute to go for a 14-7 victory in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group V championship game.

The Mariners (11-1) had been just 1-9 two seasons ago, when Moorer was an up-and-coming sophomore. Saturday at Rowan University, he and quarterback Mike Husni led the way for the Mariners.
