Frigid Temperatures, Icy Roads: Toms River Schools Close Again

The area is under a cold weather advisory until Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Students and staff members in the Toms River Regional Schools are getting another snow day on Tuesday as Ocean County continues to dig out after Sunday's storm.

"Due to the remaining icy conditions from the winter storm, and to ensure everyone's ongoing safety, all schools are closed Tuesday, Jan. 27," the district announced. "All programs, rentals, and activities are canceled as well."

The Ocean County Vocational-Technical Schools also are closed Tuesday and adult evening education classes are canceled, that district said.

Bitterly cold temperatures in the morning and icy roads will make for hazardous conditions.

The area is under a cold weather advisory until 10 a.m. Wednesday, with wind chills as low as 7 degrees below zero expected, the National Weather Service said. Wind chills that low can cause hypothermia if precautions are not taken, officials said.

Daytime temperatures are not expected to get above freezing all week, according to the forecast.
