Frigid Temps Put Ice On Barnegat Bay: Photos
A local woman took photos of the frozen bay in the Seaside Heights area from a plane. Share your photos of the deep freeze with Patch.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The persistently frigid temperatures are causing not only pipes to freeze but large bodies of water as well.
That includes Barnegat Bay, as captured in this photo from a Spirit Airlines flight taken earlier this week.
Kristina Vispisiano of Glassboro took the photo and her uncle, Anthony Vispisiano, shared it in the Seaside Heights Boardwalk group, "because it was so beautiful," he said.

The line through the middle of the photo is the Route 37 bridge from Toms River to Seaside Heights.
There are several great photos of the ice on Barnegat Bay in the Facebook group Seaside Heights Boardwalk, where Vispisiano shared his niece's photo. Click here to see geese on the ice in Seaside Park.

The photo Vispisiano posted has been shared more than 1,500 times. (If you've got ice photos, you can email them to karen.wall@patch.com and I'll share them with readers.)
But one word of caution: Just because the top of the bay has frozen doesn't necessarily mean it's safe to walk on or drive on. Generally, it takes a foot of ice to hold a vehicle, and because Barnegat Bay has constant currents due to the tides, it takes much longer to freeze than a freshwater lake takes to freeze.
